Everyone was in a bit of a funk today so after we did our circle time we decided being out and about was our best bet.

We drive to our favourite bike riding spot and just being there with nothing around us but trees and woodland, heading nothing but birds and the wind rustling the leaves I was reminded of one of the many perks of home education. The place was ours to conquer and conquer we did.

Bohan got his first peddle bike for his birthday and it’s actually been a joy to see him jump straight on it and give it everything he’s got. He has worked so hard and persevered where others might give up and I’m super proud to have finished that bike ride with him today. He is so proud of himself and hopefully next time I can find a little more patience in my cup. (I think this home ed thing is going to be more of a journey for myself than I realised!)

When we arrived home it felt like a good time to do a little sit down work.

It’s funny, I’ve been planning this term for ages and always wanted to choose “all about me” for our first ever topic. I got an email from nursery telling me that their topic for the term is… yep… all about me. And I’m annoyed and I don’t know why.

Anyway. All about me. We’re learning obviously all about ourselves, where we live, our family etc but also that there are lots of different people in the world. And I’m planning on talking about what makes us, us through discussing feelings and likes and dislikes etc and also how to be a good member of society.

Our books for the term so far are…

And we’re making our own book all about Bohan. I’m tempted to include Romy in it but I want her to make her own one when she turns 4 because I think it’ll be a lovely thing to look back on.

We ended the day with some quiet painting while I prepared dinner

I need to find a way to get some time for myself in the day. To teach the children the art of real independent play. I find if I’m out of the room they will get on with stuff but having me sit in their area is a no go. They want to be on me or entertained by me. So I’m trying to work on being able to share the space with them and actually have 5 minutes to sit down and breathe in the day. I think going forward this is going to be super important for us all.

Tomorrow is a nursery day and I’m hoping to be up and about in time to do a circle time in the morning because I see how it really centres Bohan and gets him pumped for the day. I really should teach Jamie our songs and verses …
