And oh. What a hump day it was.
I thought I’d given Bohan enough time to settle back into his nursery routine after the summer but I’m not sure if I’m rushing him. He spent this afternoon full of big emotions and really rested both Jamie and I. He’s a little boy who’s emotions sit right under the surface and I feel like they’re always there fizzing away just waiting to bubble over. Be that from excitement, joy, frustration, anger. Whatever he feels, he feels big and most of the time it doesn’t do him any favours.
I love his passion and his determination but helping him to navigate all these huge little boy feelings is one of my biggest challenges as a parent for sure.
This morning he went off to nursery and o Romy and I spent the morning at our local playgroup.

It’s so nice to have time with her on her own. It’s funny how differently she plays with no big brother around to guide her in games.
I also like to pick Bohan up alone on Wednesdays and I always manage to find a need for a run to the shop to carve out an extra few minutes with him. Today was nice and he was a good sport in the shop.
I moved our circle time to this afternoon because I see how great it is for both of the children. It gives them some grounding and some focus. They’ve been enjoying the story of the star apple very much and they both especially enjoy sprinkling a small pinch of seeds when I say “the wind blew so hard it blew all the pretty leaves off the trees.”
We decided to use our apple to make some paint stamps. I thought this would be right up Bohan’s alley but something didn’t quite gel for him. Maybe he needs a bit more reconnection time when he gets home from nursery or maybe a big run around in nature. I’ll have to play with different options because for whatever the reason going straight into an activity was a bad idea.

After a bit of free play I could tell things were getting fractious again and sometimes engrossing Bohan in an activity really helps to bring calm so we got out some paper and made origami autumn leaves for our autumn display. They turned out really amazing and he did such an amazing job following the instructions. I can’t wait to start our little display. It’s not officially autumn for another few weeks but we’re getting there.

Bohan has a full day in nursery tomorrow so I can imagine all we’ll be doing is a circle time and some reading. Its a big change trying to start a new routine. Romy and I spend the day singing with our friends tomorrow and it’s just the most perfect way to welcome in the end of the week.
