Wasn’t quite all it cracked up to be when we returned. The huge rush of comfort was somewhat dashed by things that I can’t even begin to let myself to dwell on because I might spiral into a world of forlorn. So just know there was a real period of mourning when I got home. Mourning for a welcome I was craving and for actual (plant) lives lost.

But… right now? Other than the baby actually trying to send me loopy with lack of sleep life is actually nice. Full of comfort and normal and the kids are in a good place and I’m feeling optimistic about where we are and what’s to come.

Jenny started and oh my she’s changed our lives. I’m kind of turning a blind eye to her affinity with Jo “the actual living and breathing devil to children” Frost because everything else is just so absolutely everything we needed. The house is tidy-ish. The laundry is done-ish. There is some semblance of organisation going on and it feels good.

I wasn’t planning on filling our week but we’re so lucky to be in Devon with this community that inevitably our week is pretty full right now.

Monday we go to Stover in the mornings and for a picnic. We feed the birds and paint in our nature journals. Then we head to a swimming lesson where we meet up with friends.

Tuesday is a morning for some sit down work and a scoot around the village for some fresh air. Bohan has an online comic/book club and then after lunch we head into town for B’s guitar lesson and Romy’s ballet class.

Wednesday the children go off to forest school. It’s a school hour drop off so Soren and I can hang out and see some baby pals.

Thursday Soren and I go and get our cups truly filled to the brim at our Thula Mama singing group which is honestly the best baby thing I’ve ever done. The children go to the library while Jamie does some work and then in the afternoon we go to a home ed group to see friends and either take part in the activity or just play and hang out.

Friday I’ve tried to leave pretty open so we can travel or see pals. Bohan does an online science lesson at midday which he really loves and come the warmer months both children will go to cricket in the evening.

Each morning the kids do numeracy and literacy. They read aloud every day and if I can squeeze in some baking and art in the week then I’m feeling pretty good about life.

We have a very mixed approach to home Ed and I really try to follow their leads as much as possible.

So we’re just settling in and even though I’m feeling tired (seriously soren – why do you hate your poor mama?) I think the kids are thriving with this level of activity/organisation/schedule.

It’s a funny term this summer term. It feels short. There’s two bank holidays this year and we’re travelling to South Africa for 3 weeks in weeks so before we know it it will be summer and everything will look different again.
